Halibut Point State Park is a uniquely beautiful coastal seascape, part of the Massachusetts state forests and parks system managed by the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR). Looking seaward on a clear day, the view stretches from Crane Beach in Ipswich to Mount Agamenticus in Maine and the Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire.
Site of the former Babson Farm granite quarry, Halibut Point State Park and adjacent Halibut Point Reservation, a property of The Trustees of Reservations, are cooperatively managed for scenic, historic, recreation and conservation purposes by DCR and The Trustees. Sea Rocks, a contiguous coastal property owned by the Town of Rockport, and is also open for public use along the town’s Atlantic Path. Here you can explore trails and tidepools, picnic on rocky ledges, enjoy sweeping ocean vistas, and learn about Cape Ann’s historic granite industry.
On Saturdays from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend tours of the quarry are offered and sometimes include a granite-cutting demonstrations. Other programs spotlight the park’s natural history, including wildflower tours and tidepool activities for children during the summer and guided birding walks throughout the year. Check the bulletin boards in the parking lot and at the Visitor Center or call the park for information on upcoming programs.
Most areas of the park and Visitors Center are universally accessible. Assisted-listening devices are available for park tours. There are no trash barrels in the park – please carry out what you carry in.
