World War II Tower Talk
December 2, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Free
Following the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack, America’s mainland defenses were rapidly enhanced with expanded coastal patrols and the construction of a network of watch towers at the ocean edge. One of these watch towers, completed in 1944, is today part of the recently renovated visitor center at Halibut Point State Park. On Friday, December 2, from noon to 2 PM, Norman Scarpulla of the Coastal Defense Study Group will provide a historical presentation about Halibut Point’s barracks and tower, and their role in our nation’s strategic coastal defense program. Bring your own brown-bag lunch and join in for this informative program at Halibut Point’s former World War II barracks and watch tower.
