Cottage Gardens on Both Sides of the Atlantic

‘Cottage Gardens on Both Sides of the Atlantic’ Thursday, May 31 at 7PM

The Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library will present local garden and floral designer, lecturer and teacher Frederick L. Rice in a lecture and slide presentation, ‘Cottage Gardens on Both Sides of the Atlantic’ on Thursday evening at 7 PM in the Friend Room of the library. ‘In the late 19th century, Gertrude Jekyll almost single-handedly revived the cottage garden-style in England.’ The style has become very popular in the US and Mr. Rice will provide ideas and guidelines and answer your gardening questions.

A native of Manchester-by-the-sea, Mr. Rice is the 4th generation owner of the Garden at 9 Friend Street in Manchester which he opens yearly to the public and which has been featured in 3 national magazines. He is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art in design and education and has lectured throughout the United States and in the United Kingdom with over a dozen various garden lectures.

The Lyceum sponsored program is free and open to the public.
