Fall Festival at the White-Ellery House!
The Cape Ann Museum offers fun for the entire family at the first annual Fall Festival at the White-Ellery House on Saturday, October 4th from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at 244 Washington Street. This event is free and open to the public. Free onsite parking is available.
The festival is a celebration of historic Gloucester and greater Cape Ann, and will offer traditional craft demonstrations including decoy carving, weaving and seaweed printing. Participants can observe a bee-keeping demonstration, and try their hands at colonial games and other family activities. Beginning at noon, enjoy the folk music of Jay and Laurie Keefe of Old Cold Tater and the traditional American tunes of the Cape Ann Ramblers.
A traditional lunch of clam chowder is available for purchase from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm and is supplied by Turner’s Seafood. Cider, coffee and traditional breads will be available for purchase throughout the day.
The White-Ellery House is a First Period structure that was built in 1709 on Gloucester’s historic Town Green (now the Grant Circle rotary) and moved to its present location at the corner of Poplar Street. The house will be open for tours throughout the day, and families can explore themed treasure chests inside while learning about Gloucester’s early history.
The White-Ellery House was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites because of its design, materials, and workmanship, and its plank frame construction. It was included in Seventeenth Century Saturdays, a county-wide program that celebrates surviving First-Period structures.
The Cape Ann Museum is located at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Museum is closed during the month of February, on Mondays, and on major holidays.
