Cape Ann Historical Museum and Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library Host Interview with Barbara Erkkila-Ricker, Granite Quarrying Historian

The Cape Ann Historical Museum and the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library, present a Fireside Chat with Barbara Erkkila-Ricker, author of Hammers on Stone: The History of Cape Ann Granite. Sinikka Nogelo, director of Cape Ann’s local access television will interview this authority on the local granite industry. This is the second in a series of programs aimed at preserving oral histories of residents with long ties to Cape Ann. The interview will take place on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Museum. A reception will follow. The program is free and open to the public.

This program is the second of three Fireside Chats scheduled for the fall and winter of 2007. The purpose of these public programs is to aid in the preservation of the history of Cape Ann in the 20th century. These events will be filmed and recorded, and later broadcast on local access cable television. Films will be available for viewing at the Cape Ann Historical Museum, and the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library. Funding for this project was provided by New England BioLabs.

The Cape Ann Historical Museum is located at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Museum is closed during the month of February, on Mondays, and on major holidays. Admission is $6.50 adults, $6.00 seniors, $4.50 students, children under 6 and Museum members are free.
