Compaq Big Band
The 2008 Summer Concert Series returns to the Antonio Gentile Bandstand in Stage Fort Park in Gloucester on Sunday, July 20 at 7 pm with the Compaq Big Band. The free outdoor concert featuring the internationally acclaimed authentic 20_piece big band is held at the Antonio Gentile Bandstand located in Stage Fort Park overlooking picturesque Gloucester Harbor. Ample free parking is available for the concert. For further information call 978-281-0543. The Compaq Big Band has kept New England swingin’ since 1975. Their big band repertoire honors the classics from the 30s and 40s as performed by the bands of Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and other greats as well as honoring the great vocalists of the time with featured vocal numbers such as those popularized by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Bobby Darin, Frankie Randall, Nancy Wilson, Diane Schuur, and many more. These standards are the base for this complete big band as their repertoire is also complemented by swing numbers from the 50s right up through the hottest big bands of today including music from the bands of Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Kubis and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Compaq Big Band kicks off the free outdoor concert series at the Antonio Gentile Bandstand located in Stage Fort Park on the edge of Gloucester harbor at 7 pm on July 20. These six concert series offers a wide range of musical styles to enjoy in the beautiful summer weather with a view of picturesque Gloucester Harbor. The Summer Concert Series includes the Joey Scott Experience for rousing contemporary favorites on Sunday, July 27 at 7 pm; Local favorites the acoustic bluegrass masters Old Cold Tater on Sunday, August 3 at 7 pm; The Cape Ann Community Band takes the concert stage on Sunday, August 10 at 7 pm; Country and western favorites John Penny Band bring a country flair to the Bandstand on Sunday, August 17 at 7 pm and The rhythm and blues rock of Overdrive closes the concert series on Sunday, August 24 at 7 pm.
