The Rockport Art Association is proud to host the first major retrospective of internationally recognized plein air artist George Carpenter, October 27th-December 2nd in the Maddocks gallery. Opening Reception will be held Saturday, October 27th, 4-6pm. Light refreshments will be served, admission is free and open to the public.

‘A painter in the ‘Purist’ sense, George Carpenter’s paintings have received an international recognition. His marine-landscapes reflect his love for the beauty of nature and his native New England. Mr. Carpenter’s soft expressionistic style is of his own self-mastery. Although he received no formal art training, he has lectured and demonstrated his technique throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. His work has been reviewd in ‘La Revue Modern’, Paris; ‘Allguaer’, Marktoberdorf, Germany; ‘Dallas Morning Star’, Dallas, Texas; and many art letters and journals.

His paintings have been shown in over 100 one-man and group exhibitions, some of which include The American Watercolor Society, New York; National Academy of Design, New York; Galerie Simonis, Ede, Holland; the Arts Club, Montreal, of which he is an honorary member; Down East Gallery, Washington, DC; Quadrangle Gallery, Dallas, Texas; San Diego Museum of Fine Arts, San Diego, CA, Farnsworth Museum, Rockland, Maine; Watercolor USA Honor Society, Springfield, MO., Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA, and the Rockport Art Association’ (‘In the Cove’, George Carpenter Gallery, Ogunquit, ME).
