Jon Shain Trio performing at Old Sloop Coffeehouse

Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter from Durham, North Carolina who’s been turning heads for years with his words, his fiery acoustic guitar work, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime. Jon grew up in Haverhill, attended Duke University, studied with a number of the great older NC blues players, and played in Big Boy Henry’s backing band. Jon founded folk-rock ensemble Flyin’ Mice, with whom he recorded four CDs and shared stages with luminaries such as David Grisman, Tony Rice Unit, Hot Tuna, Leon Russell, Dave Matthews Band, and the Dixie Dregs. His solo career has seen the release of six critically-acclaimed CDs and appearances with John Hiatt, Keb’ Mo’, Little Feat, Michelle Shocked, Jackson Browne, and others. Jon’s latest CD, Times Right Now, released in November 2009, is being hailed as the best recording of his career.

Jon will appear at Old Sloop Coffeehouse with favorite collaborators Bill Newton on harmonica and FJ Ventre on bass.
