Winner of a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Vocal Jazz Album, Kurt Elling makes his Rockport Music and Shalin Liu Performance Center debuts with his frequent collaborator, pianist Laurence Hobgood. Declared the ‘top male vocalist’ in the latest Downbeat Magazine reader’s poll, Elling’s rich baritone voice spans four octaves and displays an astonishing technical facility and emotional depth. Elling has an awesome command of rhythm, texture, phrasing, and dynamics, often sounding more like a virtuoso jazz instrumentalist than a singer.
