Launch Party for Joe Garland Book

Museum hosts launch party on Veteran’s Day for new title by Joe Garland

The Cape Ann Museum, in collaboration with Rockport-based Protean Press, will celebrate the publication of Joe Garland’s new book Unknown Soldiers: Reliving World War II in Europe on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum. Join us for a reading, book signing, and refreshments. This program is free and open to the public.

In Unknown Soldiers, Joe Garland’s 22nd book, Joe presents World War II through the eyes of a close-knit infantry platoon’men who braved Nazi fire to stake out the front lines of the Allied campaigns in Sicily, Italy, France, and finally Germany. The book began as Garland’s wartime notebooks, and follows his journey from privileged Harvard student to ‘dogface’ with the 45th Infantry Division on the Winter Line and then Anzio beachhead. During the 1970s, still struggling with war’s aftereffects while attempting to write his memoir, Garland tracked down some 20 buddies. Most had rarely spoken of the war to anyone; they talked to Joe with grit and humor and suffering intact, and the story grew into a collective memoir. The book will be released on Veteran’s Day.

Please join us to celebrate with Joe Garland, Cape Ann’s beloved author. For further information call the Museum at (978) 283-0455 or visit www.capeannmuseum.org or www.ProteanPress.com.
