MEE celebrates significant anniversaries of a variety of composers, including the world premiere of an extraordinary flute quartet by Mark Berger, the 2009 New Music at the Edge Commission! Composed for virtuoso flutist and MEE artist Orlando Cela, this stunning piece evokes colors and musical textures that fire the imagination. Join us to hear the first performances!
Then immerse yourself in musical offerings for other composers’ special years: for Purcell’s 350th birthday, a Fantasia for Four Voices; Roussel’s 140th, Trio for Flute, Viola and Cello; the 50th anniversary of Villa-Lobos’ passing, The Jet Whistle, with flutist Cela and brilliant cellist Emmanuel Feldman. And always the right music in any year, Mozart’s Flute Quartet in A Major, K. 298. Truly a program of choice and delight!
