Paul Strisik, N.A. (1918-1998): Still Life Paintings

Opening Reception on Saturday, July 14, 2007

Cape Ann Historical Museum is pleased to present The Still Life Paintings of Paul Strisik, N.A. (1918-1998). Strisik began his career as an aerial photographer in the Navy during World War II, and then later studied for three years at the Art Students League in New York City with renowned teacher Frank Vincent DuMond. It was under DuMond’s tutelage that he gained a thorough grounding in the principles of painting as practiced by the Old Dutch Masters. He moved to Rockport in 1953 and within two years opened his gallery on Main Street. He traveled extensively throughout his career, and his favorite destinations were often depicted in landscapes from New England, the Southwest, and Europe. His career as a painter developed late in life, at age 27, yet he quickly achieved prominence as painter, teacher, and lecturer. Throughout his career he won over 185 awards including 16 gold medals, and was granted full membership with the prestigious National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society and many others.
