Gloucester, MA _ Henry Ferrini has been producing award-winning films from his Cape Ann studio for close to thirty years. His latest film,’Polis Is This: Charles Olson and the Persistence of Place ‘ will be showing, for one night only, at Gloucester Cinema on Tuesday, November 27 at 6:30 pm as part of seARTS’ Community/Visitor Education Series funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Guests are invited to stay for discussion and Q&A after the screening with Ferrini who will be joined by writer Ken Riaf.
Polis Is This wrestles with the six foot eight inch 275lb colossus of poetry, Charles Olson, in the squared circle of understanding. Through never before seen footage and interviews, actor John Malkovich leads an all-star unit in a search and explore mission.
Charles Olson saw Gloucester, MA as the perfect modern reflection of the ancient Greek city state, a polis _ 30,000 people shaped by their own geography and pulled by their own powerful sense of history. His poetry transformed the isolated fishing town into a microcosm of America energized by extraordinary confluences that connected it to all other places.
