“Restoring Shellfish Beds and Salt Marsh at Gloucester’s Mill Pond”
Barbara Warren, Director of Salem Sound Coastwatch &
Eric Hutchins, NOAA Restoration Coordinator
Gloucester’s Mill Pond, a 30-acre salt marsh situated inland from the Annisquam River estuary was just one of the City’s 200 projects identified for possible restoration projects in 2003. Today, via untiring partnership efforts among the City of Gloucester, Gloucester’s NOAA Restoration Center and Salem Sound Coastwatch, its water quality has been restored to the natural salinity levels which allow shellfish beds to thrive and improve the habitat of other marine organisms as well.
