Despite the name, we don’t decorate the town’s Christmas tree.
We do something even more beautiful.
Rockport’s oldest Christmas tradition began back in the 1890’s, when
Rockport grocer Tim Sheehan invited the town’s children to
visit with Santa at his store. More than a century later,
this event is still carried on by the Christmas Tree Committee.
Over the years our events have grown to include not only
Santa’s Christmas morning arrival at Dock Square, but also his visit to
the nursing home, and the delivery of some 700 Christmas Baskets
to some of Rockport’s elderly, ill, or bereaved residents.
Our mission is to spread cheer at Christmastime.
