One of the most acclaimed classical guitarists in the world, Sharon Isbin has made an enormous musical impact. Her fearlessness and curiosity have both expanded the range of classical music and helped redefine the perceptions of classical guitar. Isbin has forged a dazzling career over the last 30 years, releasing more than 25 recordings (three Grammy Awards, six total nominations) covering a wide range of styles, genres and composers.
She has played with more than 170 orchestras over the world, has commissioned more concerti than any guitarist in the modern era, and has won numerous awards and accolades, including being the first guitarist to win the renowned Munich Competition. Isbin’s music has ranged from Baroque to Spanish/Latin to crossover jazz to contemporary new music. The guitarist’s genre-bending and musical restlessness is grounded by her flawless technique and extraordinary lyricism.
Isbin’s appearance in Rockport is the Massachusett’s premiere of her documentary’Sharon Isbin: Troubadour, which includes guest appearances from a wide array of luminaries including Michelle Obama, Joan Baez, Steve Vai, Stanley Jordan, Garrison Keillor, Mark O’Connor, Martina Navratilova and many more. The one-hour film will be shown along with a live performance from Isbin herself.
The evening includes an Artist Meet and Greet Reception following the concert.
