The Sunday Book Chat will meet on November 18 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss ‘Mountains beyond Mountains’ by Tracy Kidder. The author examines the life and work of Paul Farmer, a medical anthropologist and physician who spent more than 20 years transforming healthcare in Haiti’s central plateau. Part biography, part public health text, and part travelogue, the book follows Farmer from his childhood in Florida and Harvard medical education to his establishment of a Haitian clinic and later status as an international expert in treating communicable diseases, such as AIDS and tuberculosis. The book offers a compassionate portrayal of the lives of the Haitians with whom Farmer lives and works.
