The Wooden World Around us

Essex Shipbuilding Museum

66 Main Street

Essex, MA 01929

From furniture to fence posts, clamming skiffs to hammer handles, wood still plays a major role in what we make and how we make it. On the premise that what is critical knowledge for the shipbuilder or wheelwright can be more than useful for the homeowner or woodworking enthusiast, David Brown, builder and educator, will lead us through a series of demonstrations an experiments. We’ll mill a log, face a plank, bend a hoop and knock together some sort of very useful something. All with the intention of bringing participants of all backgrounds a step or two closer to understanding the versatility and value of the renewable resource quietly standing in our backyards and neighborhood woodlots. Please arrive dressed for the weather and laden with query! Explorers & Essex Shipbuilding Museum Members Free; Non-members $15.
