PRESS RELEASE

Treasures of Gloucester’s Sargent House Museum

Sunday, November 2, 2008

2:00 PM at the Kryouz Auditorium in City Hall, Gloucester

The Sargent House Museum is excited to welcome MFA Adjunct Lecturer Miriam Braverman for an illustrated talk that will highlight the furniture and architectural details of the house as examples of the high style that represented a huge cultural leap forward. ‘Any museum in the world would be overjoyed to have these exquisite pieces,’ says Braverman, ‘The collection can stand up to anything elsewhere in the country.’

The talk will be held the Kryouz Auditorium at City Hall on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 2:00PM. Braverman will compare the architecture and pieces from the SHM collection to known masterpieces in museums worldwide, in particular, a (c) 1750 highboy, possibly made in Ipswich, and the absolutely stunning details of the parlor and the stairwell. After the lecture, visitors can fully appreciate these special pieces in the context of the 18th century Georgian home, by joining Braverman for a wine and cheese reception at the Sargent House on Middle Street.

Tickets to the lecture are $15 ($12 for members), or $25 for the lecture and reception. Tickets may be purchased in advance by mailing a check to The Sargent House Museum, 49 Middle Street, Gloucester, MA 01930, or through the website at www.sargenthouse.org. Tickets will also be available at the door. All proceeds will be used to benefit the museum and its programs. For additional information, please call The Sargent House Museum at (978) 281-2432.
