The L. Dexter Woodman Scholarship Fund originated in 1988 in memory of L. Dexter Woodman, son of the founder of Woodman’s of Essex and longtime owner of the establishment. Throughout his life, Dexter (‘Deck’) took great joy in serving and supporting the people who lived on and visited his beloved Cape Ann. Proceeds from the Taste of Essex and Deck’s Day for Dubbers are awarded to graduates of the Essex Elementary School and of Manchester-Essex Regional High School. The scholarship fund has expanded its generosity and is now giving scholarships through the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, and the Essex Lions Club. All scholarships combined total $40,000 to be given out this year!
