A Classic Concert in the Park

DOWNBEAT SOON FOR CAPE ANN COMMUNITY BAND

The Cape Ann Community Band will begin rehearsals on Monday, July 7, at 7pm, at the American Legion Hall, Washington St., Gloucester. The theme of the annual concert is ‘A Classic Concert In The Park’ the program will feature many band ‘classicscal overtures and transcriptions, famous marches and Disney music. Director David Benjamin invites instrumentalists of all ages to come play concert band music in a fun and stress-free environment. ‘We rehearse a challenging program for five weeks, then play a concert at the bandstand in Stage Fort Park on Sunday, August 10, at 7pm. It’s a terrific time for everyone, young and old. It’s also one of the most well received concerts of the summer on Cape Ann.’ Once again the band will be sponsored by the Gloucester Cooperative Bank.

‘We have lots of fun playing in rehearsals. Grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins and friends come together weekly for a night of good music. It’s really a great opportunity for players of all abilities. We mix the selection up so that the different levels of musicianship and skill can be addressed. In other words, there is some music in our program for each player’s level. It’s a great thing to watch the adults work with the young players. I’m very proud of our community band; they play well.’

There is no fee for this program and the concert is free to the public as well. Players need only bring their instrument, everything else is provided. Drummers need only bring sticks; percussion equipment is provided. Players are encouraged to sign up for the band by calling David Benjamin at 978-281-0543 or e-mail .
