Gloucester photographer Lynn Swigart will speak about his work in conjunction with the exhibit Visual Poetry: The Photographs of Lynn Swigart on Saturday, December 3 at 3:00 p.m. in the Museum’s Folly Cove Auditorium. The presentation and slide show will be followed by a gallery walk with the artist. The program is free and open to the public.
Swigart began photographing Cape Ann seriously in the mid 1970s working mostly in black and white. The majority of the photographs in the exhibit are the artist’s personal response to the images of Gloucester created by poet Charles Olson in his epic The Maximus Poems. Swigart’s book Olson’s Gloucester was published by Louisiana State University Press in 1980. The exhibit continues through January 31, 2006.
