Cape Ann Winter Birding Weekend

Bird watchers from as far away as Maryland and Ohio will venture to Cape Ann this weekend for the third annual Cape Ann Winter Birding Weekend. The event will take place at the Elks Club in Gloucester from February 4-6.

Cape Ann is known to birdwatchers worldwide for its exciting concentrations of winter seabirds, and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, working with Mass Audubon, has planned a weekend filled with a variety of events for all levels of birders.

Chris Leahy, Endowed Chair of Mass Audubon and noted authority on birding, will introduce Robert Buchsbaum who will speak on winter birding on Cape Ann Friday evening.

Wayne Petersen, Director of Mass Audubon’s Important Bird Areas Program is doing a travelogue about his trip to Svalbard Saturday evening. Caroline Haynes will do a Power Point presentation about her trip to Belize during the day Saturday.

Expert guides will lead bus trips to many of the birding hot spots around Cape Ann. For those who can not make it on the guided tours other expert guides will be on site at the Elks throughout the day of February 5th.
