Clamfest Chowder Competition Winners

The Windward Grille and Ipswich Clambake took home first place
honors at last month’s Essex Clamfest in the 29th edition of the
chowder-tasting contest with nearly 2000 people in attendance.
After tasting chowder from 11 Cape Ann restaurants the panel of
judges, including Senator Bruce Tarr and Representative Ann-
Margaret Ferrante, selected Ipswich Clambake as its top
choice. This lone restaurant outside of Cape Ann, was the firstplace
winner of the judges’ vote. Windward Grille of Essex was
second while Periwinkles was third.

‘It was a wonderfully successful day for Essex and the Chamber,’
said Clamfest Committee co-chair Sue Lufkin. ‘The weather was
beautiful and there was something for everyone. Along with the
great music and the chowder-tasting contest this event continues
to showcase the best of Cape Ann.’

With nearly 900 people partaking in the voting process, the people
chose Windward Grille of Essex as their top choice for chowder,
followed by Periwinkles of Essex in second. Rounding out in third
place was newcomer Nicholas Seafood and Grille of Manchester-by
