Founded in 1992, Essex River Cruises is located in the middle of a salt marsh estuary, surrounded by natural beauty, colonial farms, unique museums, great restaurants, interesting shops and antiques. The marsh itself is part of the Essex River, an intriguing natural work in progress. Formed 15,000 years ago by melting glaciers of the last Ice Age, it serves as feeding grounds for many species of beautiful birds and abundant wildlife. For generations it has sustained, boat builders, fishermen, clammers, entrepreneurs and characters of all sorts, from the Agawam natives to the present residents. We’ll tell some of their stories during your cruise.
So climb aboard our new, larger, more comfortable, fully Coast Guard inspected forty foot Essex River Queen II. Certified to carry 70 passengers at a time, she’s fully equipped with restroom and bar on board for convenience and a canopy to protect you from the sun. We can also roll down screens or transparent sides when appropriate. We accommodate wheelchairs and will help you board.
Experience up close Choate Island, film site of ‘The Crucible’ and ‘Witches of Eastwick’ on our Special High Tide Fall Foliage Cruise on October 22 and 23. Cruise with us for this two hour majestic narrated trip. Enjoy a complementary cup of Hot Mulled apple cider and cider donuts from local apple orchard while observing the spectacular beauty of New England’s famous fall foliage. Adults $25, children $12.
River cruises are sheltered and not like sailing on the open ocean. However, we are Mother Nature’s guests, on a boat, and cruising in coastal waters, where the temperature may be lower than on land, so dress accordingly. Wear comfortable clothes, and functional shoes, preferably with rubber soles. If in doubt, bring a jacket. If you forget something, or would like to bring home a souvenir, we have most anything you might want in our little gift shop, including hats, sweatshirts, cameras, knick knacks, snacks and gift certificates.
