Cape Ann Historical Museum and Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library Sponsor Fisheries Program

The Cape Ann Historical Museum, in partnership with the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library, presents Gloucester’s Fishing Industry: Then and Now, the first in a series of Fireside Chats aimed at preserving oral histories of residents with long ties to Cape Ann. The panel discussion will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Museum. A reception will follow. The program is free and open to the public.

Peter Prybot, author, journalist, and a commercial lobsterman of 47 years, will moderate a panel of Fishing Industry representatives who are responsible for bringing fish from the ocean to your table. The panel includes Gaetano ‘Tommy’ G. Brancaleone, retired fishing captain and vessel owner; George Ingersoll, lumper/longshoreman; Sam Favazza, fish buyer; and Audrey Malloy, fish packer.

This program is the first of three Fireside Chats scheduled for the fall and winter of 2007. The purpose of these public programs is to aid in the preservation of the history of Cape Ann in the 20th century. These events will be filmed and recorded, and later broadcast on local access cable television. Films will be available for viewing at the Cape Ann Historical Museum, and the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library. Funding for this project was provided by New England BioLabs.

The Cape Ann Historical Museum is located at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Museum is closed during the month of February, on Mondays, and on major holidays. Admission is $6.50 adults, $6.00 seniors, $4.50 students, children under 6 and Museum members are free.
