PATHWAYS UNLEASHED!
The History: In 2004 and 2006, Pathways for Children held Lobster Landings and Chairs for Children, events modeled after Boston’s Cavalcade of Cod and Chicago’s Cows on Parade. Both events were powerful in their impact and simple in their premise. While Chairs for Children provided area artists with Adirondack chairs, Lobster Landings provided artists with larger-than-life, unpainted sculptures which were transformed into unique works of art. The masterpieces were then displayed throughout the community and ultimately sold at a high-profile auction raising critical funds for Pathways’ extensive programs. Please keep up-to-date with this exciting event by subscribing to the Pathways Unleashed! E-Newsletter. To sign up go to the Contact Us section of the website and put Pathways Unleashed! E-News in the comment/question field area.
The Event: In the spirit of these successful events, Pathways for Children is delighted to return with Pathways Unleashed, featuring a variety of lavishly designed, life-sized Dogs! These artful animals, turned into one-of-a-kind creatures by local artists, will be exhibited throughout Cape Ann and, once again, auctioned off to the highest bidders at a gala auction on September 12, 2009. As the date approaches, we look forward to posting details about the Gala, including ticket information.
The Kids: How do the Dogs help the Children of Cape Ann? Pathways’ mission is to help children discover their potential and grow into confident and empowered adults who contribute to the well-being of the community. Pathways fulfills its mission by providing high quality, affordable and comprehensive care, education, recreation and other support services for children and their families. Pathways Unleashed! will elevate awareness of Pathways for Children and raise crucial funds necessary for Pathways’ to deliver first-class programs.
The Dogs: We are pleased to report that the Steering Committee commissioned an array of dog breeds including five Standing Labrador Retrievers, five Sitting Labrador Retrievers, two Standing Bassett Hounds, two Sitting Bassett Hounds, two Bulldogs, two Dachshunds and six Buddy Dogs which is the depiction of a friendly everyman’s dog! Do you remember what the Artists did with the Lobsters? How about the Chairs? Imagine what they will be able to do with Dogs! Enjoy the Gallery of Pathways Unleashed! Dogs as the artists return them to Pathways this Spring.
The Map: During the summer of 2009, all of the Dogs will be on display at various locations throughout Cape Ann, Ipswich and Prides Crossing beginning July 17, 2009 for residents and visitors to enjoy. For Dog locations view the Map. Maps, which were created by Chris Clark of Cave Dog Studio, are also available at each of the Dog locations as well as Pathways for Children, the Rockport Visitors Center and the Stage Fort Park Visitors Center.
