PUBLIC SAFETY CRIME PREVENTION EVENT VIN ETCHING PROGRAM – November 12

On November 12, 2011 the Essex Police Department, in conjunction with the Governor’s Auto Theft Strike Force, will sponsor an Auto Theft Prevention Program called ‘VIN Etching’. The event will be held at Essex Police Department, 24 Martin St. in Essex from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The process, which takes approximately 5-10 minutes, etches the V.I.N. (Vehicle Identification Number) of your vehicle into all the glass windows of your vehicle by using a computer generated stencil and a glass reactive acid treatment. This provides a visible deterrent to theft and can be good for a discount of up to 15% off on your comprehensive auto insurance.

In order to participate you need to have the following items:

1. A vehicle with a current and valid registration

2. $10.00 cash, which is paid to the Auto Theft Strike Force to defray the cost of materials.

3. A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in your possession.

If you have any questions about the event please contact Chief Peter Silva of the Essex Police Department at 978-768-6628, or Pamela Surette Govenor’s Auto Theft Strike Force at 781-393-1201.
