Rockport’s favorite piano trio Andres Cardenes, violin, Anne Williams, cello, David Deveau, piano, return to the Rocport Art Association this fall.
Concert program features folk influenced piano trios from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries:
Haydn: Trio in G major, Hob XV: 25 “Gypsy”
Shostakovich: Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67
Dvorak: Trio in E minor, Op. 90 “Dumky”
All of the pieces are immediately appealing and comprehensible, and one can listen with a sense of history – from Haydn’s era of powdered wigs and aristocratic courts, through the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century and Dvorak’s luminous Romantic language, to the mid 20th century wartime era of Shostakovich. Due to the common thread of folk influence, these three works seem to go together perfectly.
David Deveau speaks about performing with Andres Cardenes and Anne Williams:
With respect to performing with Andres Cardenes and Anne Williams for almost 20 years now, I can simply say that for all three of us, it is the most satisfying music making we do. We all have busy lives as soloists, chamber musicians and teachers, but when we come together to rehearse, learn new pieces, refresh old pieces, and perform, it truly is a labor of love. The jokes fly in rehearsal, the mutual respect is great, and the results are often surprising in ways we can’t anticipate. A little adjustment in timing here, or coloring there, can take all three of us by surprise in concert, and often in the most fun (and sometimes profound) ways. We have a chemistry when playing together that is simply remarkable, and natural. It’s something that can’t be manufactured.
