Rockport’s 66th Annual Christmas Nativity Pageant this Saturday!

Rockport’s 66th Annual Christmas Nativity Pageant

In the spirit of the holidays, the Rockport Art Association is once again hosting the Annual Christmas Nativity Pageant, in partnership with the Rockport Chamber of Commerce. The pageant will be held Saturday, December 17th, 2011 at 5pm.

Each year hundreds of spectators gather to watch the live re-enactment of the story of baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the Bethlehem inn and the stable. The pageant begins with a torch lit procession which starts at Dock Square and proceeds up Main Street to the Congregational Church. Here the story of Jesus’ birth is brought to life through a live narration and Christmas songs sung by a full choir.

The pageant was originated by Dr. William F. Strangeman and Mrs. Aldro Hibbard in 1947, as a gift from the Rockport Art Association to the village. It remains a solid holiday season fixture to this day.

This year’s pageant would not be possible without this year’s sponsors, Granite Savings Bank and Rockport Rotary Club through their very generous monetary support, the generosity of Rockport Music for the use of the Shalin Liu Performance Center to broadcast narration, Rockport National Bank for hosting the post pageant open house party, Bruce Rowell of Bayside Electric for lighting, Ken Lane of Seaview Farm for supplying Jasper the donkey, Mark Nelson and his choir, Rockport Congregational Church for the use of the church to house and broadcast the choir, as well as the efforts of scores of dedicated individuals both in the cast and supplying support behind the scenes.
