The L. Dexter Woodman Scholarship Fund was created in 1988 in memory of L. Dexter Woodman, son of the founder of Woodman’s of Essex and longtime owner of the establishment. Throughout his life, Dexter (‘Deck’) took great joy in serving and supporting the people who lived on and visited his beloved Cape Ann. Proceeds from the Taste of Essex and Deck’s Day for Dubbers are awarded to graduates of Essex Elementary School and of Manchester-Essex Regional High School. The scholarship has expanded its generosity and now also gives scholarships through the MRA, the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, and the Essex Lions Club.
